Claude Chabrol

Legendary master of the "Nouvelle Vague"

Claude Chabrol (1930-2010) is a legend not only in French cinema. The director and screenwriter was one of the most important protagonists of the Nouvelle Vague, that influential current in film history: Chabrol, Jean-Luc Godard, Jacques Rivette, Eric Rohmer and François Truffaut changed the face of the cinema after having broken with the old cinema and put the "politique des auteurs" into practice as a critic at "Cahiers du Cinéma". Chabrol adored Alfred Hitchcock, many of his films are similarly abysmal and ambiguous, while he viciously attacked the French bourgeoisie and scourged them for their decadence, self-love, and their vain penchant for money and power. To date, Chabrol's work has lost little of its radiance.
