Twelve-year-old Niklas loves his village of Borschemich on the Lower Rhine - and his grandpa, on whose nearby farm he spends much of his free time. For as long as he can remember, Niklas has helped his grandpa work in the fields and with the animals.
He is particularly interested in the machines and the tractor, on which he is allowed to drive around on his own.
But the idyll is in danger: In one year, the whole of Borschemich is to be razed to the ground because lignite lies beneath the village. Together with the church, the old moated castle and the lime tree, which is many hundreds of years old, Niklas' home and the farm will then also be dredged and turned into a huge yawning hole.
We accompany Niklas during his last visits to the farm and during the move to the family's new house in a new development called "Borschemich neu".
The film was made as part of the dok you competition.
