Cutting Class

Brad Pitt in one of his first leading roles! Paula Carson's (Jill Schoenen) "high school scoring" couldn't be better. The attractive young woman is class president and is dating Dwight (Brad Pitt), the star basketball player at her school. Paula seems to have everything a young person could wish for. Then dark clouds gather in the classic US teen dream: Teenage murderer Brian Wood (Donovan Leitch) is released from a mental institution and returns to his old classmates. Unsurprisingly, it's not long before students and teachers are again found missing or murdered. While Dwight is convinced that Brian has become violent again, Paula, who is looking after Brian, suspects that there might be more, or rather: someone else, behind the series of murders than meets the eye... Just two years after "Cutting Class", Brad Pitt was to capture the attention of the film industry as a lover in "Thelma & Louise". Films such as "A River runs through it" and "Kalifornia" followed before Pitt made his big international breakthrough in 1993 with "Interview with the Vampire". The rest is (acting) history. In "Cutting Class", an 80s horror film with comedic sprinkles, the murderer only seems clear on the surface. Before the "whodunit" guessing for the culprit begins, the usual ingredients of a typical teen horror slasher of the time can be identified: From the creepy janitor spying everywhere, to the too-old-looking cast of high school students along with lewd faculty, to the tried-and-true story plot with idolized high school stars getting it in for all their arrogance. The result is an excursion into the splatter genre of the 80s that should not be taken too seriously!
