Banksy is a phantom. Although (or precisely because) his art adorns facades and walls all over the world, nobody knows who is actually behind the celebrated street artist. Until a crazy Frenchman and self-proclaimed documentary filmmaker named Thierry Guetta set himself the goal of tracking Banksy down. Thanks to good contacts and a bit of coincidence, he even succeeds. But then everything turns out differently than planned: Banksy turns the tables and points the camera at Guetta. Guetta, in turn, now embarks on a surprising career as an artist himself.
Billed as "the world's first street art disaster movie," BANKSY - EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP premiered at Sundance, was shown at Berlinale, and went on to be nominated for an Oscar Academy Award nomination, as well as a nomination as outstanding British debut at the British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs.
