An interview with Emil Cioran

Born on April 8, 1911, Cioran is often labelled the writer of despair. Yet this son of a Romanian priest denies it. In this interview, he describes himself as an absolute outsider, an eternal student enrolled at the Sorbonne until the age of 40, who would have liked to continue frequenting university canteens. And if he writes, it's not with a view to a literary career, but out of depression, loneliness and personal downfall.
