Michele (Isabelle Huppert), head of a successful video games company, looks like a woman who can't do anything. Unapproachably, she runs her company with the same precision and calculation as her love life. One day, when she is attacked and raped by an unknown person in her house, she seems to leave what happened cold at first. But her life has changed overnight. Resolutely, she tracks down the attacker and becomes entangled with him in a dangerous game of curiosity, attraction and revenge. It's a game that can get out of control at any time ... At the end of seventy, Paul Verhoeven (BASIC INSTINCT, ROBOCOP) has returned to genre film after more than 15 years - and has received perhaps the best reviews of his long career for ELLE. For a Rape-Revenge-Thriller, which plays provocatively with victim and perpetrator roles, is surprisingly humorous despite the subject and dispenses with any moralization. Verhoeven owes this not least to Isabelle Huppert, who gives absolute credibility to an almost impossible role.
